EDUCATION PROJECT
The Value of Lifelong Learning and Financial Self-Reliance Education Project

This is an education program that focuses on building self sufficiency and the skills involved in entrepreneurship. This project involves producing DVDs, printed materials and lesson plans that share tried-and-true methods for human development. The materials are equally valuable to teach African-American history, as they include many previously untold stories of people of color who became pioneers in fields ranging from agriculture to insurance, from military to higher education.
The series helps youth and adults gain valuable awareness of their own possibilities and each person’s power to effect change. The program will look at the values of hard work, financial self-reliance, lifelong learning, and services to others being past down from generation to generation. The value of a strong sense of family, family members staying close to each other, helping successive generations thrive from the multiple strengths of their extended family will also be looked at.
The Talented Tenth - Heritage Rediscovered,
Presented by the Wilmington, NC Chapter of the Links, Inc.

The spokespersons for the families contained in this video tape speak to the importance of education and self-sufficiency. They also discuss the value of hard work, financial self-reliance, lifelong learning, and service to others being passed down from generation to generation.
Due to the timeframe during which the video was prepared, a lot of the persons recorded have passed on to their eternal life. Nevertheless, a lot of the members of our current day generation, particularly our present day youth, can benefit greatly from the tried-and-true methods for human development contained in this video tape.
Consequently, our motivation for obtaining permission from the Wilmington, NC Chapter of the Links for including this video tape on our non-profit foundation website. Speaking to and honoring the importance of education, qualities of servant leadership, social entrepreneurship, visionary action and family cohesiveness, are things that can not be over emphasized.
These attributes are being emphasized in the development of an education program under the BESDF, Inc. non-profit foundation that focuses on building self-sufficiency and inspiring an entrepreneurial spirit.
