Dear Family and Friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our mom, Constance Merrick Watts, passed quietly this morning with family by her side. She is joining our dad/her husband of 59 years, Dr. Charles DeWitt Watts, Sr. who passed in 2004 and our sister, Deborah Watts Hill who passed in 1993. She leaves behind her sister, Vivian Merrick Sansom of Raleigh, NC who is 97 years old, three children, C. Eileen Watts Welch (Jim), Charles D. Watts, Jr. (Janis Ernst) and Winifred Watts Hemphill (Dana), nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends who she loved very much.

Our Mom had a wonderful, full life and she will be truely missed. Her service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at St. Joseph’s AME Church in Durham, NC.

Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers as we treasure the memories of our Mom.

In lieu of flowers we prefer gifts to the Durham Colored Library, Inc. which is a non-profit founded by Mom’s grandfather Dr. Aaron McDuffie Moore in 1913 that continues to publish the Merrick Washington Magazine and is in the process of publishing a biography of Dr. Moore. See the website at www.DurhamCL.org for more information.

Sincerely,

Her children
