An Ongoing Concern for BESDA/BESDF - Poor Health Ratings in Columbus County, NC
Our ancestral home area, Columbus County, has been listed at the bottom of the list again as least healthiest county in North Carolina for the fourth year in a row. Neighboring Bladen County, NC is only slightly better at 98th out of the 100 counties in the state.
Columbus County's Health Director acknowledged their continued poor showing in a year-end 2012 county health assessment stating: "...our county has been ranked as the least healthy county in the state for the past three consecutive years. This ranking has left us all feeling discouraged and perplexed about our county’s future health and what it will mean for future generations."
