Interview featuring George H. "Duke" Spaulding Aired Tuesday on WQED-TV in Pittsburgh This Tuesday’s episode of WQED-TV’s “Horizons” features an interview with George H. Spaulding, a renowned musician and talented piano technician, by show host Chris Moore.
Moore’s interview chronicles the life and career of Spaulding, a prominent
figure of Pittsburgh’s jazz and music scene, who is also known as the "Duke Ellington of Pittsburgh.” An accomplished pianist and the organist-in-residence at Bethesda Presbyterian, Spaulding is a piano tuner, member of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and has been a member of the Pittsburgh Musicians' Union since 1941. He also served for 10 years as president of the Madam Mary Cardwell Dawson Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians.
George H. Spaulding will be featured at the upcoming Spaulding Family Reunion in our "Jazz Night with the Spaulding All-Stars" performing with other accomplished jazz musicians in the family.
